Industrial Environmental Incorporated (iei) has proudly served clients for over four decades, with roots tracing back to 1984. Originally founded as ESCO Corporation by a civil engineer, the company first specialized in oil well services. Just a year later, the business evolved to meet growing environmental needs, launching its asbestos abatement services in 1985.

By 1986, the company began a working relationship with Ashland Petroleum Company in Catlettsburg, KY, providing abatement services at the refinery. This partnership laid the foundation for a future built on trust, technical expertise, and a focus on safety.

In 1992, Mark Major purchased the company and ushered in a new era of growth and opportunity. His vision expanded operations, strengthened client relationships, and, in 1995, led to the renaming of the company as Industrial Environmental Inc. (iei).

The early 2000s marked another important milestone. In 2005, iei deepened its collaboration with Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC), which had recently assumed operations of the Catlettsburg refinery. For the past two decades, iei has been a trusted contractor for MPC, providing on-site support, maintenance, and abatement services while upholding the highest standards of quality, reliability, and safety.

Today, iei’s operations in Catlettsburg are led by Jon Shepherd, who brings more than 30 years of industry experience. Under his leadership, iei field crews continue to support refinery operations, multiple terminal locations, and occasionally assist Marathon Pipeline in the field. In addition, iei has expanded into the commercial sector, offering a full range of abatement and environmental services to a broader client base.
